Brian enters the interview room courageously. He meets with three interviewers, an old man, a stuttering young man, and a young lady who is the chair of the panel. When the lady starts speaking, Brian realizes that her grammar is gravely flawed. She barely completes any sentence without a grammatical error. She tries but it seems to be a big weakness to her. Brian has mastered oratory skills, he is confident and articulate. He doesn’t understand how people of their calibre can be such imperfect.

The young man on the other hand stutters. It takes several minutes for him to put across a simple interview question. From time to time, while speaking, he holds the table tight to complete a word. Besides, the old man dozes off frequently. It looks like he is not interested in anything else other than asking questions and then going back to slumber. The only resourceful person in the panel is the young lady.

A few questions cross Brian’s mind. How on earth did the whole organization settle on people who can’t even express themselves? He gets irritated and becomes very impatient. He loses the psyche of answering the questions. When the stuttering young man is asking questions, Brian is too impatient to wait for him to complete the question.

Kelvin, the last interviewee, enters the interview room. When he realizes the composition of the panel, he remembers a bible verse; “give honour to those honour is due.” It is obvious to Kelvin that dishonour produces dishonour. Flawed as they are, they have their side of story too. Kelvin’s patiently bears with each of them. When the interview results are out, Kelvin is honoured to get the job.

It is proving difficult for Kelvin to work with them. The old man is the founder and managing director of the company. The stuttering young man on the other hand is the HR manager while the young lady with flawed grammar is the general manager; he has to work with all the three side by side for him to perform.

After months of pondering, he introduces the HR manager to a therapist. Fortunately, the young man’s stuttering problem is not innate. It was caused by traumatic childhood experiences and it is corrected. He also encourages the young lady to read a lot of books and he links her to a public speaking coach. Within three years, the lady is able to speak fluently.

One morning, the managing director calls the three in his office. He informs them about his intention to hand over the leadership of the firm to the three. They were to choose among themselves who will be the managing director; everyone shares their experiences on how Kelvin helped them. The two recommend him for the position. Six months later, he assumes his new role.

While finding out how the two got their appointment to serve as the top managers, Kelvin discovered that the two honoured their boss while working as junior staff. Coupled with their excellent performance, they receive an appointment to be senior managers.

So many young people reap dishonour because they think showing honour is slavery. Their methods of getting honour lead them to severe slavery. What qualifications can’t do, honour can do. Qualifications will never teach you simple manners and etiquette. It is a personal responsibility to learn values and use them appropriately.
